So, this is pretty depressing, eh?

And this right here is just downright scary. (The link might not work if you're not registered with the New York Times, but why not register since it's fast and free?) Or, if you (like me, generally) are unfond of William Safire, how about this one? It's called the "Total Information Awareness" program, and I hadn't even heard about it until Adam pointed this out to me:

Every purchase you make with a credit card, every magazine subscription you buy and medical prescription you fill, every Web site you visit and e-mail you send or receive, every academic grade you receive, every bank deposit you make, every trip you book and every event you attend all these transactions and communications will go into what the Defense Department describes as "a virtual, centralized grand database."

You guys. The government is going to keep track of every single thing that every single American--this means your sweet old grandma, your baby cousin, your kindergarten teacher--does, and when and where and why. And who's going to help them do it? Microsoft! Handy how they just won that big fat lawsuit thingy, in'it? Now their time is nice and free.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but this is bad and fishy. It's fishy, people! Get mad! Write your senator! It probably won't help, since agencies that are supposed to only make war on other countries are doing this and pretty much bypassing all of our checks and balances, but it can't hurt, especially since the ACLU is considering asking Congress to clarify that it did NOT mean to get rid of the Fourth Amendment when it created the USA Patriot Act.

On a more personal note, things with my grandmother aren't going that well apparently. She still tries to be gracious and sweet to everyone, but she doesn't know where she is or how or why she got there. She can't walk, but she can't remember that she can't walk, so every time she tries to get out of bed an alarm goes off and people rush in. Last night my mom basically asked me to pray that she would die, because she's so miserable. My mom spends all of her time at the Home that is anything but.
