Ive had the theme from Good Times in my head all morning. Mrs-Roboto pointed out recently in conversation that none of the lyrics actually describe good times. Temporary lay offs--good times! Easy credit rip offs--good times! etc. Its really quite the poignantly ironic theme song, when you stop to think about it.

But I actually have been having very good times lately, and not in an ironic way. Its parade season in Seattle, and so this past weekend I hit Gay Pride, which goes right down the soon-to-be-MEGASTORE formerly known as Broadway, and the weekend before that, the Fremont Solstice Parade. I like parades. I dont know whytheres just something about people walking down the street acting like dorks that appeals to me for some reason. Plus, a year of living in New Orleans, the Parade Capital of America, kind of forces you to like them. I developed a bloodthirsty lust for worthless plastic beads during that time, and my main disappointment with parades in other parts of the country is that they do not involve nearly enough worthless plastic beads.

But I digress. The Solstice is the kind of parade that was big in Eugene, OR (where I also lived, back in the day)lots of painted naked people, generally on bikes, as well as a lot of other elaborately constructed, people-powered floats and costumes and stuff. I enjoyed it. Hippies in their native environment are entertaining. Pride, wellnot so much. The Pride parade has no rules about motorization or commercialism, so at one point a Bud Light truck drove down the street. There werent even any gay people on it or anything. It was just a big beer truck.

However, I watched Pride with my friend K. and her girlfriend C., who just came out recently and was excited about everything: Yay for the gay City Council! Look, gay librarians! Go gay beer! and so on. It was kind of like spending Christmas with kidsyou dont enjoy it so much for yourself as vicariously through them. And the bloody mary I had didnt hurt anything.

Saturday was Mr. and Mrs. Robotos Grill-Out Extravaganza! Seriously, you have never seen so much food. And beer. And good peeps. I have to second Itzies opinion that one of the highlights of the party was meeting the Roboto's neighbor's parents (if you follow me). They were just about the cutest little old couple you have ever seen in your life. Seeing sweet, happy older couples like that makes me feel better about life in this universe.

Tonight Danny and I are going to the movies. If we were better citizens, we would be seeing Fahrenheit 911, which I really do want to see and plan to see soon, honest. But instead were going to get unsober and go see Dodgeball. I know. Shut up.
