<< we love L.A. >>
2006-07-31 - 9:52 a.m.

Last week we went to L.A. to visit Richard's sister and to become discovered as models. I've always had a terrible attitude about Los Angeles, what with the cars and the smog and it being my duty as a Northwesterner/Southerner, but you know what? L.A. is actually totally fun. You should go there!

You can, for instance, go see a movie projected on a mausoleum at the Hollywood Forever cemetery. (We saw Dressed to Kill, which if you haven't seen it is pretty awesome and features a murderous transexual of the 70's. But it's probably at its best projected on a mausoleum.)

While there, you can enjoy a beer with the remains of Johnny Ramone*--until the security guard comes over and asks you to have some respect for the deceased and their families and to drink your beer in the the parts of the cemetery with fewer famous people, for Christ's sake.

Meanwhile the sun will set behind you in full California glory, like so:

Did you know that the palm trees in southern California often reach heights of 2.4 miles? Me neither!

Also, for once in our sad lives we actually had the total hook-up: B's friend T works for the WB, and was kind enough to give up his Sunday to get us passes and lead us on a tour of the WB lot. The main feature of the lot is the entire town of Stars Hollow, the set for the Gilmore Girls. We love ourselves some Gilmore Girls. (I know, the recent seasons aren't as good, but still.)

Because it was a summer Sunday (and hotter than the face of the sun), there was no one around to stop us from taking many, many dorky pictures of ourselves:

(If you actually care about the Gilmore Girls at all, you can see all of our Stars Hollow photos here.)

And then, later that night, we got to meet the beautiful Myra Lee and her handsome husband. You know how you read Myra Lee's journal and you think wow, she seems pretty awesome? I'm here to tell you that in real life, she is much awesomer than that. The both of them were so funny and nice (and did I mention totally gorgeous?) that I think Richard and I were slightly abashed, and might have talked too much. (On the other hand, is it possible to say too much about this season of Project Runway? Probably not.)

After drinks, we got to see the front of the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.

No one came out and discovered us, though. Maybe because it was around 10:00 at night. Or, maybe it was because the JDMA is about 400 times faker than Stars Hollow.**

The next day I sort of insisted on going swimming at Malibu, because we were in L.A. for the hottest temperatures ever recorded in L.A. county. Hot. Malibu is pretty:

We didn't see anybody famous, but we did manage to avoid arrest, unlike some people.

We haven't had any modeling contract offers yet, but we have some headshots circulating and are working on various projects. We expect to hear back from Janice's people very soon.

*The base of this statue is inscribed with tributes to Johnny from various celebrites, including this moving memoriam from Lisa Marie Presley: "Forever here today, never gone tomorrow, my eternal friend." She is a wordsmith, that Lisa Marie.

**Some might say it's because I'm only 5'3", but I am planning to break new ground as a minus size model. Rise up, my short sisters!
