On Friday a patron came into the library with a rat on her shoulder, wearing a little tiny leash. She sat down at a computer and started typing.
The other librarian politely informed her that the library has a no pet policy.
"Oh, it's not a pet. It's a service rat."
"A service rat?"
"Yes, it's for my ADHD. His movements on my shoulder keep me focused."
I spent a good part of the afternoon worrying that someone was going to come in with a service cat, at which point all hell would break loose.
