<< kitty negotiations >>

We're all moved! Well, sort of. We are all moved in the sense that all of our stuff is now at the new house and the cats have warily begun the process of making friends.* However, we are not all moved in any sense that would imply that we have tamed the chaos beyond creating walkable pathways through each room.

Today is my last day as a receptionist at Very Fancy Architecture Firm. You can tell it is fancy because they don't have one of those things that pours sugar into your coffee (and the coffee is actually pretty good, by the way); they have sugar cubes instead.

I commuted from Ballard this morning (rather than walking from Capitol Hill, as I did last week), taking the 28 express bus. I cannot beging to describe to you how different this commuting experience was from my old one, between Capitol Hill and the University District. Those buses--the 7 and the 9 lines--are filled primarily with the clinically insane and UW undergraduates, two demographics who are sometimes distinguishable only because members of the one are more likely to be screaming into a cell phone, rather than just plain screaming.

The 28 express bus might as well be on a different planet. My fellow commuters from Ballard knitted, worked crossword puzzles, read literary novels, or chatted quietly with their neighbors. I began to see why Mrs. Roboto actually talks to people on her busline--they are not crazy! They are clean! They do not ask for spare change! It was really quite the eye-opening commute.

I didn't get the one job that I wanted, but some a did get a call about another job that I'd like even more, so we'll see. It's a bit of a long shot but miracles do happen. In the meantime, I start work for the airplane library on Wednesday. Whee, airplanes!

*Right now, Neko's territory primarily consists of our bedroom, the bathroom, and the back hallway, while Little Eval rules the living room, kitchen, and laundry room. (The office door mostly stays shut because it is crammed full of crap.) They have touched noses a couple of times, and Eval has sort of considered swatting Neko, but has not yet done so. Mostly they both try to play it cool and not look as desperately interested in the other as they really are.
